How many more weeks can we watch the excruciating slow death of our wetlands and offshore fisheries? The kidneys of our country will eventually fail and all the associative ecological sequences will result in the deaths of the familiar wildlife species which we know so well. Along with this, all the bacteria and microorganisms which purify the water will perish. This is not the disappearance of a few pet like crawly creatures but a devastating blow to the infrastructure of a planet.
Considering the power and the glory which British Petroleum has had over the last few years with the acceleration of the prices of gas and oil products to inordinate levels, one would have thought that their research and development department would have reached equivalent heights to match their inordinate salaries . This however is not the case. It seems that they had not considered a catastrophe at five thousand leagues under the sea. Testing in teacups seemed to be adequate. Why were there no back up plans? What were the emergency plans for such an accident and leakage? This event is certainly going to a test of their remaining resources and good luck to them for the reaction of the people when the new drilling plans for the East Coast are announced.
